What to Wear for Rebounding: Shoes, Socks, Clothing, and Setup

Start with the manufacturer’s instructions
There is no single footwear rule for every rebounder. Some manufacturers permit athletic shoes, bare feet, or grip socks; others recommend a specific option. Follow the guidance for your model before copying what someone else wears online.
The best choice provides dependable traction, comfort, and control without catching the mat or frame.
Athletic shoes
Supportive athletic shoes can feel familiar and may help people who prefer more structure. Check that the sole fits comfortably within the usable jumping area. Very wide, rigid, worn, or heavily treaded shoes may feel awkward on a small moving mat.
Use clean indoor shoes when possible to protect the mat from grit and damage.
Bare feet
Bare feet can provide sensory feedback and allow the foot to move naturally. They may not suit everyone, especially people with foot pain, reduced sensation, skin concerns, or medical advice to protect their feet.
Inspect the mat and stop if your feet feel irritated or unstable.
Grip socks versus ordinary socks
Grip socks may offer traction if the manufacturer permits them. Ordinary smooth socks can slide and are usually a poor choice for rebounding. Replace grip socks when the tread becomes worn.
Choose fitted clothing
Wear clothing that allows comfortable movement without hanging near the springs, cords, legs, or frame. Secure loose drawstrings and avoid wide pant legs that may catch. A supportive, comfortable top or sports bra can reduce distraction during faster movement.
Remove items from pockets and secure long jewelry.
Prepare the space
Clothing is only part of safe setup. Before each workout:
- Check the legs, cords or springs, mat, and handlebar
- Use a level, non-slip floor
- Clear furniture and objects from every side
- Check overhead clearance, including ceiling fans
- Keep water nearby but away from the jumping area
- Make sure children and pets cannot move under the rebounder
The teacher’s takeaway
Wear what helps you maintain traction, comfort, and control while following the instructions for your equipment. A careful setup matters more than a fashionable outfit.
